Must-See Events at the Calgary Stampede

The Calgary Stampede is in full swing, and with the final weekend approaching, now is the perfect time to experience the excitement and festivities. Whether you’re a seasoned Stampede-goer or a new student visitor, there’s no shortage of incredible events to enjoy.

To help you make the most of the remaining days, we’ve put together a list of six must-see events that you won’t want to miss.

1. Daily Rodeo

The rodeos are the highlight of the Calgary Stampede. The Stampede is where the best cowboys and cowgirls come to compete in events like bull riding, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. Held every afternoon starting at 1:30 PM at the GMC Stadium, each event is packed with adrenaline-pumping action and incredible displays of horsemanship.

Make sure to arrive early to secure a good seat and get ready to cheer on your favourite competitors from across North America as they vie for top honours in this iconic showdown.

2. Grandstand Show

The Grandstand Show is a spectacular evening event that combines music, dance, and incredible stunts. You can catch the show nightly, in the GMC Stadium. Featuring talented performers and a breathtaking fireworks display, this show is a must-see for anyone visiting the Stampede.

This year, headliners include The Hunter Brothers and The Young Canadians.

3. Nashville North

For country music fans, Nashville North is the place to be. This lively venue hosts a variety of country artists and bands, providing non-stop entertainment and a great atmosphere. Be sure to check out the lineup and catch your favourite acts before the Stampede ends. Entry is free with stampede admission.

4. Agricultural Exhibits

The Calgary Stampede is not just about rodeos and concerts; it also celebrates the region’s rich agricultural heritage. Explore the agricultural exhibits to learn about farming, livestock, and local produce. Kids will especially enjoy the interactive displays and petting zoo.

5. Elbow River Camp

Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture and traditions of Indigenous Peoples at the Elbow River Camp. This unique attraction features 26 tipis representing five local Treaty 7 First Nations: Kainai, Piikani, Siksika, Stoney Nakoda, and Tsuut’ina.

Visitors can experience traditional dance performances, storytelling, and cultural displays. The camp also offers opportunities to learn about Indigenous customs, crafts, and foods. It’s a wonderful way to engage with the rich history and heritage of Canada’s First Nations and gain a deeper understanding of their contributions to the region.

6. Midway Rides and Games

No visit to the Calgary Stampede is complete without experiencing the Midway. From thrilling rides to classic carnival games, the Midway offers fun for all ages. Take a spin on the Ferris wheel, or try your luck at winning a prize.

The Midway is also known to have some crazy, cool food to try!
