Medical Device Reprocessing

Join the Medical Device Reprocessing Program at ABES College

Our Medical Device Reprocessing Program has recently undergone a name change; it was formerly called the Sterile Processing Technician program.
This 40-week program runs in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS). The Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program is designed to provide students with the necessary technical skills, employment preparation skills, as well as all other practical and essential skills necessary for working in the field. Students must have 2 years Post-Secondary training in Health Care or Life Sciences to qualify for admission.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) Hires 96% of our MDRT Grads

Alberta Health Services has been involved with the Medical Reprocessing Technician Program since 2008, and works in close cooperative partnership with Alberta Business & Educational Services (ABES) to ensure that the MDRT program grows with the industry, and surpasses expectations in terms of curriculum and quality of graduates. Alberta Health Services provides our students with a practicum, and as a result 96% of our graduates are hired by Alberta Health Services following their practicum experience.

All staff working in Medical Device Reprocessing must be certified prior to April 2015; and our teachers and staff are best-equipped to prepare students for the examination.

Can I Qualify for Financial Aid?

Yes! More than 95% of applicants qualify for financial aid.

Many applicants—such as those with children, those who didn’t work last year, and those who recently arrived in Canada—will qualify for free grants automatically, and even those with a high income will usually qualify for some aid.

In short: if you’re worried about the cost of the program, schedule a time to chat with an Admissions Advisor. They can help give you a better idea of how much financial aid you will qualify for.

What Makes ABES Different from Other Schools

What Makes ABES Different from Other Schools?

We stand out from other schools for 3 big reasons:
  • As a small, privately owned school, ABES guarantees hands-on training for every student.
  •  Unlike other schools, all our programs offer practicum in the Calgary area—making it easier for you to stay local. (Many students get their first job offer while they’re still on practicum)
  • Finally, we stand out for our extensive connections in the medical community. Thanks to our relationships with local healthcare facilities, our graduates have an easy road to employment.
